It's about hope!
Beautiful pictures, beautiful story
BeautifulThis story not only clarifies the necessity to of the need for love but it brings it forth with such astounding boldness. The mountain in its isolation literally almost gives up in the midst of its quest for companionship.
This book is not only a book for children -- it is can also be a literary piece for adults. In the quest for the mountain's security; the bird leaves behind generation upon generation of offspring to provide the mountain with a sense of love and security for many, many, many years to come.
Beautiful -- is a mere word that describes an element of something that is precious, astounding, and good. I cannot find the perfect word for this book. It seems to me that beautiful is hardly enough.

Did you take your Multivitamin today? As I sit here chewing a Country Life Adult's Multivitamin, I wonder if I am getting all the essential Vitamins and Minerals in one supplement. Would it not be ideal if all you had to take each day was one chewable and delicious pill and that was it. Well, life is just not that simple, unfortunately. Each multivitamin is formulated differently and to find one that is Vegetarian and Hypoallergenic was a real plus.
Now, if you just picked up a bottle of multivitamins and you didn't know that taking over 8,000 I.U. of vitamin A per day was not advisable for pregnant women, you might want to read this book. If you are dealing with skin problems, you might want to take 10,000 IU and that would be fine. For Vitamin A to be toxic, you would have to take 100,000 IU daily for a period of months and you would not want to take such a high dose unless under a doctor's supervision.
There is a handy chart where you can Troubleshoot for Disorders. If you have Insomnia, you might want to consider Calcium and Melatonin (Read the book by Ray Sahelian first if you take prescription medications).

You Don't Know Beans About Bats Until You've Read This Book
Amanda is a Great Ambassador for Bats!
An excellent story of an extraordinary relationship!

An outstanding reference on both common and rarer gemstones.
A fantastic book for those interested in gemstonesThe next major section deals with well known gemstones. Every stone you can think of from diamond to emerald is covered in this section. The section is reserved for stones that most everyone has heard of and are readily available at any store. This section is layed out in a field guide type format as opposed to an in depth paragraph discussion. Each stone has a description of its characteristics and colored photos of multiple examples. The photos are beautifully done with several different examples of each stone shown.
The final section is reserverd form more uncommon gemstones. This section will be sure to surprise you. For example petrified wood is shown as a more uncommon gemstone. Even the most experienced gemologist will learn something new in this section..The pictures and layout of this section are the same as in the previous section.
I highly recommend this book to people with an interest in geology or gemology. This book is not a book that is best read cover to cover. It is better used as a reference because of its layout and abundance of information. No matter what you use it for you will be fascinated with the information and captivated by the photography. A wonderful book that will keep you entertained for hours.
The best gemstone reference book I've seen. The book teaches you the basic properties of gemstones, hardness, cleavage/fracture, color, refraction, dispersion, etc.
It gives you an overview of cutting and polishing gemstones with a chart of the different types of cuts available.
But the best part of the book is the description of gemstones. This book covers virtually all known gemstones! Not just the big 4(diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire) but over 100 different gems, many that you've probably never even heard of!
The gems are broken down into groups, the beryl group, corundum group, etc. Each group then gives the different gems from that group and gives the physical characteristics of that gem. It lists the different sources and colors of each gem and tells you which gems you might confuse the stone with.
And finally each gemstone comes with a full page picture of different cuts, colors and rough of that gem.
All in all this is a MUST HAVE BOOK for anyone interested in gems.

A very informative book
Very Easy To Read & Understand
A well researched and written book

Fantastic book on meteorites
From La Canada, CA
comprehensive, well written and full of facts on all aspects

"Comstock Lode" can be read over, and over, and over...The main character is Val Trevallion, a young man of twenty-four with a harsh past. Both of his parents were killed when he was young and he has taken it upon himself to have revenge on the killers. He is a quiet man but very strong because of his work in mines. Though he has not had the best education, he is very smart. Grita Redaway is Val's friend from his past. Her parents were also killed by the same people who killed Val's parents. She is a very beautiful and an intelligent actress. She is independent though with a streak of stubbornness in her. Al Hesketh is the villain of the story. He is a cruel and wicked man, only thinking of himself and how he can become rich.
The story begins in Cornwall, England in the year 1859. Val is fourteen-years-old when his father and mother decide to move to America. His father wants to work his own mine in California. He saves enough money so they go to America by boat. When they reached Gunwalloe, the Trevallions decide to travel to California with another family, the Redaways. The Redaways have only one daughter, Grita, who is eight-years-old. A few days before they leave, Val's father goes to buy supplies a few miles away. Suddenly, drunken rustlers attack the wagons in which Val and Grita's mothers are in. The drifters kill the mothers then beat up Mr. Redaway. During the whole time, Val and Grita are hidden nearby; Val protecting Grita and shielding her from the sight. After they leave, killing Mr. Redaway, Val and Grita go find Mr. Trevallion. After the dead are buried, Mr. Trevallion, though heartbroken, decides to carry on to California with Val while Grita goes to live with her aunt. But on the way to California, Val's father is killed by the same men who had killed his mother. Val swears to have revenge on the murderers. Ten years go by, during which Val shoots two of the people who were involved in the murders. Val then realizes that he has wasted his life and decides to settle down and have his own mine in Virginia City, Nevada, where the Comstock Lode is. He gets good land and finds some silver in his mines. But trouble seems to follow him everywhere. He finds out that Grita is in big trouble, in which the remaining men who murdered his parents are involved.
Love this book, and is one of my favorite L'Amour books. Louis L'Amour is the type of writer that, whatever he writes, you'll know before-hand that you'll love them. "Comstock Lode" is no exception. Some other of my favorite L'Amour books are:
*North to the Rails*
*Sackett Series*
*Matagorda*
*Crossfire Trail*
...and this list can go on and on and on!
i've read it several times and will read it again!!!I have read many L'Amour novels and this one stands out because of its detail of the charactures. L'Amour explains why his charactures act as they do while still containing all of the typical content of most of his novels. If you read one L'Amour novel, read this one!!
L'Amour is like reading, only easierThis book in particular recounts actions in and around the greatest single discovery of silver in the United States. Though the particular details of the plot have long since left me, during a recent visit to Virginia City, years after having read Comstock Lode, I was able to explain to my companions why the cemetery held the remains of so many from Cornwall, England. So I can say that at least some part of the book has remained with me over the years.
